Prof. Baral named VC of TU
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, as the Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, has appointed Professor Keshar Jung Baral as the Vice Chancellor of the country’s oldest university that was established in 1959. Baral previously served as the Vice Chancellor of Pokhara University. Baral, who is the 20th Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, has said he will implement the academic calendar strictly to ensure examinations are held on schedule and results are published within the stipulated time.

Dr. Bhatta appointed MD of NOC
The government has appointed Dr. Chandika Prasad Bhatta as the Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). The Cabinet meeting held on February 18 decided to appoint Dr. Bhatta as the management head of the state-owned enterprise engaged in petroleum imports and supply management. The secretary (Commerce and Supplies) of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies chairs the NOC Board. Previously, Dr. Bhatta was the Executive Director of the Special Economic Zone Authority. This is Dr. Bhatta’s second stint as managing director at NOC. He was previously appointed as managing director at the corporation in 2014.

Bhandari appointed Chairperson of NTA
The government has appointed Bhupendra Bhandari as the Chairperson of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) – telecommunication sector regulator. Bhandari was serving as Advisor to the Minister for Communication and Information Technology prior to his appointment as the head of the telecommunication sector regulator. The Cabinet meeting of February 18 had named Bhandari as the chairperson of NTA.

Pandeya named CEO of Nepal Bank
Tilak Raj Pandeya has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Bank Ltd. for a term of four years. The post of the bank’s CEO was vacant after the completion of the tenure of erstwhile CEO, Krishna Bahadur Adhikari. Ashok Poudel (Former Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank), Samata Panta (Deputy CEO of Nepal Bank), Laxman Poudel (Chief Credit Officer of which office), and Dhrubachandra Gautam (designation and office please) were in the race for the post of the chief executive along with Pandeya. Established in 1937, Nepal Bank Ltd. is the first commercial bank of Nepal.

Prasai named CEO of Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance
A meeting of the Board of Directors of Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance held on March 1 appointed Santosh Prasai as the Chief Executive Officer of the company for the next four years. Prasai was serving as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in the company prior to being appointed as CEO. A chartered accountant by profession, Prasai has experience of serving as CEO of Nepal Life Insurance Company and Prabhu Life Insurance Company. Following the merger between Prabhu Life Insurance Company and Mahalaxmi Life Insurance Company, Prasai was serving as the Deputy CEO in Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance Company previously.

Pradhan in Chandragiri Hills
Chandragiri Hills Pvt. Ltd. – operator of Chandragiri Cable Car – has appointed Arun Pradhan as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. A meeting of the Board of Directors held on February 7 took the decision to appoint Pradhan as the management head of the company.

Shrestha named Board of Director of Green Dev Bank
Prajjwol Shrestha has been appointed the Board of Director of Green Development Bank. A meeting of the Board of Directors on February 28 appointed Shrestha as the director of the bank. Green Development Bank is the first local development bank headquartered in Baglung covering five districts – Baglung, Myagdi, Kaski, Tanahun and Nawalpur – as its working area.

Lamsal appointed CEO of Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank
A meeting of the Board of Directors of Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank on February 6 appointed Dipesh Lamsal as the Chief Executive Office of the bank. Having worked in the banking sector for almost three decades, Lamsal was serving as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in the bank prior to being appointed as CEO.

Dr. Shrestha named Acting ED of Health Insurance Board
Dr. Mukti Ram Shrestha has been appointed as Acting Executive Director of Health Insurance Board (HIB). Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, appointed Dr. Shrestha as Acting ED of HIB. HIB is a social protection programme of the Government of Nepal that aims to enable citizens to access quality healthcare services without placing a financial burden on them. Dr. Shreshta had served as the President of Nepal Medical Association back in 2016 to 2019.
